Hunsberger, Dr. David Eugene

Dr. David Eugene Hunsberger of Listowel, passed away at Grand River Hospital, Kitchener, with his family by his side, on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at the age of 64.

Loving husband to Wendy (Kaufman) Hunsberger, his beautiful wife of 41 years.  Incredible father to his three children Lindsay Beharry of Listowel and husband Krishna, Adam Hunsberger and wife Ruth-Anne of Guelph, and Jonathan Hunsberger and fiancée Nicole Conners of Kitchener. Adoring grandfather to Lindsay and Krishna’s son Arik, and the soon-to-be-born daughter of Adam and Ruth-Anne.

Brother of Steve (Nadine Dubois), Kathryn (Peter Dilworth), Kevin (Karolynn), Jeff (Jan), and Keith (Michelle), and brother-in-law to Connie Yausie and late husband Jim, and Jane Chesney and husband John.  Dave will be lovingly remembered by his aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Predeceased by his parents Willis and Shirley (Ramseyer), sister Debrah, mother-in-law Grace (Hartman) Kaufman, father-in-law Ray Kaufman, and stepfather-in-law David Lupton. Also predeceased by Lindsay’s fiancé, Ben Binning.

Raised on a dairy farm outside of Baden, Dave fell in love with animals and the work of caring for them early in his life. He answered his calling and became a veterinarian, graduating from Ontario Veterinary College in 1981.

As a former President of the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association and a partner at Listowel Veterinary Clinic (now Heartland Animal Hospital and Veterinary Services), Dave was proud of the community that he and his Heartland Family built and served.

Wendy was the love of his life, his high school sweetheart. Together they built a home and family, each of which were his pride and joy. He loved travel and music and good conversation, though he was generally a quiet man.

In recognition of Dave’s belief that animals are truly a man’s best friend, the family would greatly appreciate that donations be made in his memory to The Farley Foundation.  Donations may also be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC).

Dave and the family are so grateful for the excellent care he received in the ICU at Grand River Hospital and wish to send a heartfelt thank you to the nurses, doctors, social worker, and administrative team.

A private Celebration of Dave’s life (by invitation only) will be held at the Listowel Golf Club, on Wednesday, August 25, 2021. Words of tribute and love will be shared at 2:00 p.m., and the link for the livestream will be available on the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel website (www.eatonfuneralhome.ca).  On-line condolences at www.eatonfuneralhome.ca
