Messerschmidt, Sarah

Sarah Frances Messerschmidt, age 90, of Stratford passed away peacefully at the Stratford General Hospital on October 08, 2021. Born in North Sydney, Nova Scotia December 13, 1930, daughter of the late William and Kathleen (Eunson) Johnston.

Sarah grew up in North Sydney, Nova Scotia and moved to Stratford in 1951. She met and married Dad (Eddie), August 13, 1955. Sarah worked in several restaurants including Rankin’s, Eastwood and The Nut Club. She loved to travel and enjoyed many trips to favourite spots including Florida, Nashville, Nova Scotia, and England with countless trips to North Sydney NS and Fort Wayne, Indiana to visit family. She loved bus trips to Niagara Falls for the Casino Grand Buffet. They were always a favorite! She enjoyed feeding family on all special occasions and holidays. You never left Sarah’s kitchen hungry. She enjoyed spending time with her loved grandchildren whenever possible. Sarah was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Stratford.

Beloved wife of the late Edward Arthur Messerschmidt who predeceased her January 23, 2015. Loving mother of Gloria Allen, Judith Messerschmidt, Ivan Messerschmidt (Sherry). Sarah was a proud grandmother and will be missed by her grandchildren Ashley, Sarah and Cale Allen, Michael and Michelle Messerschmidt. Also survived by sisters-in-law Margaret Renecker, Esther Dennis and several nieces and nephews. Sarah was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been predeceased by sisters Ivy Laybolt (Dermott), Martha “Jane” Goforth (Robert), Vivian Nichol (Howard) and brother Stanley “Tony” Johnston. Also predeceased by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law George Renecker, Harold Messerschmidt (Audrey), Earl Messerschmidt and Viola Messerschmidt

A private family service will be held with Pastor Matthew Fenn officiating. Interment at First St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, Seebach’s Hill. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Stratford General Hospital, Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society through the W.G.
