Huras, Beatrice Marie

Beatrice Huras, age 94, of Stratford, passed away peacefully at her home with family by her side on Wednesday, October 27, 2021.

Beatrice (nee Doerr) was proud to call Stratford home all her life. She told many stories about growing up on Elizabeth Street and her love of Falstaff school – at 4 years old she so desperately wanted to attend Falstaff, she marched down the street and banged on the doors. She started school the next day.

That love of learning stayed with Bea all her life. She was an avid reader, enjoyed daily crossword puzzles, loved to cook, could grow anything, and delighted in the seasons – her house was always decorated to match the time of year. She’d walk for miles while she could, usually to her weekly hair appointment or at her Point Clark cottage.

Bea loved her church, Zion Lutheran. She and her husband, Walter, were swing bowlers, then shuffle boarders. She spent years as the ‘flower lady’ arranging the alter for Sunday service. Into her 80’s she prepared meals for seniors’ lunches, and into her 90’s she enjoyed chapel services and monthly newsletter folding.

Bea spent much of her life raising 8 kids and helping her family and church. When she did work, she did so with pride and 120% dedication. She was in the war department and the cafeteria at Kroehler’s, worked for Banner Vending in the lunchroom at Hendrickson’s and the Melroy dairy Bar on Nile Street, she’d make and bring 100’s of Christmas cookies to give to everyone. She was an Avon Lady for a time and made sandwiches for the Green Room at the Festival.

Beatrice had a strength that others recognized, she endeared people to her. Even through these final months working hard to keep leukemia at bay, she so enjoyed all the nurses and doctors she met – you were all a gift to her and to us. We will miss our mom, grandma, great grandma, sister-in-law, aunt, and dear friend.

Beatrice is predeceased by her husband Walter, sons Dennis and Paul, daughter Donna, grandson Hayes, and many other family and friends that have gone home before her. She is survived by her children Cathy, John (Christine), Peter, Tim, and Lynne (Garry). Her grandson Robin Wilker was like another son. Her grandchildren Tammy Ficht, Daniel Huras, Jason Huras, Nicholas Huras, Karie Deryk, 9 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren on the way.

Visitation at the W. G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, from 4-8 p.m. The funeral service will take place at Zion Lutheran Church, 202 Erie St, Stratford on Thursday, November 4, 2021at 10:00 a.m.

As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or Community Living Stratford and Area through the funeral home. 519-271-7411. www.wgyoungfuneralhome.com.
