City of Stratford withdraws interest in renewable gas project

The City of Stratford is walking away from a proposed $20-million renewable gas project.

After voting to tentatively move ahead with the idea in January of 2020, Stratford City Council voted on Monday afternoon to withdraw its interest in the project that would have seen renewable natural gas produced at the wastewater treatment plant.

Delays because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the end date of provincial funding set aside were cited as the reasons behind the decision.

Council also voted to have staff explore potential opportunities for co-digestion initiatives and organics processing.
