Work completed on first tunnel of Stratford’s Queen Street sewer project

An important part of a major sewer project in Stratford is now complete.

City officials say a contractor finished the 590-metre tunnel along Queen Street, from Lakeside Drive to Brunswick Street, earlier this week.

It’s part of the Queen Street trunk sewer project.

Work on the second tunnel, which will run approximately 90 metres along Brunswick Street from Trinity Street to Queen Street, will begin in the new year.

Additional construction, including work on the outlet structure on the Lake Victoria shoreline, will also begin in the new year.

When it’s completed, the Queen Street trunk sewer will increase the capacity of Stratford’s storm sewer system and will help divert stormwater from the south part of the city north to Lake Victoria.
