Council committee reccommends another decrease in tax levy

There’s been another drop in the proposed tax rate for the City of Stratford.

At last night’s Finance and Labour Relation’s Committee meeting, councillors debated a string of budget line items. With some deferrals to next year and deletions of line items the overall proposed tax levy dropped to 6.99 per cent from the previously suggested 7.35 per cent.

For residential property owners the proposed tax rate fell to 4.6 per cent.  That means for a home with an assessed valued of $350,000, homeowners will pay an additional $230.90 over last year.

It was recommended the draft budget now go to Council for approval at an upcoming meeting.
