Happening Now: Special Weather Statement in effect for Perth County

Saturday could be a great day to stay home if you can.

Perth County is under a Special Weather Statement from Environment Canada with a mix of freezing rain or snow in the forecast.

The weather agency says the precipitation will likely begin as a period of freezing rain or a brief period of snow followed by a rapid transition to a period of freezing rain.

The freezing rain may last for a few hours before changing over to showers or rain Saturday afternoon.

A few millimeters of ice accretion are possible.

In addition to the potential for freezing rain, strong winds gusting up to 70 or 80 km/h are also expected Saturday afternoon into Saturday evening. The combination of strong winds and any ice build-up may lead to local power outages.

There remains uncertainty as to the exact location and timing of any freezing rain and the duration and location of the strongest winds.

People are advised to monitor future forecasts for additional details.
