Chippa, John ‘Jack’

John ‘Jack’ Chippa passed away peacefully in the Stratford General Hospital on July 6, 2023 in his 93rd year. Beloved husband of 59 years to Lois Chippa (nee Vere) of Stratford who passed away September 30 2013. Jack and Lois were blessed with seven children; John Jr. (Mary) of Wingham, Judy (Steve) of London, Mary of Winnipeg, Mike (Andrea) of Orleans, Dennis (Kathy) of North Bay, Theresa (Brian) of Elmira and Patty (Scott) of Toronto. Grandfather of 14, and great-grandfather of 13 Predeceased by his sister Dolores MacMillan of Wasaga Beach earlier this spring.

Jack graduated from Stratford Normal School in 1951 and started his teaching career at a one room school in Downie Township. He and Lois were married in 1954 and moved to Owen Sound where Jack continued to teach. As their family grew, Jack changed careers in 1961 and took on a position with the Federal Government in Sault Ste Marie with the Unemployment Insurance Commission. After spending 12 years in the Soo, Jack then accepted a manager postion in Listowel with the Canada Manpower Centre. Several years later he was appointment manager of the C.M.C. office in Stratford, resulting in a move back ‘home’ for Jack and Lois. Once settled in Stratford, they were both faithful parishioners of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church. In retirement, he loved playing trumpet in the Milverton Legion Band. He was also a dedicated volunteer for several years at the Stratford-Perth Museum.

Visitation will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 96 Huron Street, Stratford on Tuesday July 11, 2023 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Interment at Avondale Cemetery followed by a reception at W.G.
