Stratford’s first public hospital getting closer to demolition

Preparation work to demolish Stratford’s first public hospital continues.

Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance President Andrew Williams says most of the interior work at Avon Crest has been completed by the contractor and now they are getting ready to disconnect things like telephone lines.

Williams says the demolition of the exterior is expected to begin at the start of October with substantial completion by the beginning of December.

He says the site has lots of potential for the future.

“Our plan is to have a long-term care home as the anchor on the site and then develop the rest of the property in a planned way, in a way that meets the needs of this community.”

Last April, HPHA announced it was talking with Revera about plans to build a 128-long-term care bed building at the Avon Crest site.
