Stratford Police want to make sure that students heading back to school stay safe.
Constable Darren Fischer says parents should talk to their children about getting to and from school safely and making sure they know how to do things like cross the road properly, and always listen to their bus driver.
As for drivers, Fischer says they need to remember that they need to stop, even on a four-lane roadway, when they are coming towards a school bus that’s stopped and has its stop sign extended.
He says you should also always keep an eye on your speed when in a school zone.
“There’s a lot of evidence to show that when you do reduce your speed if there are collisions, there’s a much lower risk of serious injury when you’re traveling at a speed lower than 40 kilometres an hour.”
Fischer adds you should also be aware of where you’re allowed to park when you’re picking up or dropping off students at school.
