Stratford Police headquarters could be barrier-free in 2024

Stratford Mayor Martin Ritsma says the city’s police headquarters could have barrier-free access in 2024.

Ritsma says the idea of making the building accessible to all will be included as part of next year’s budget process and, if it’s approved, council will look at what that means as far as going out to tender and hiring a company to do the work.

The building on George Street West currently isn’t accessible to wheelchairs or other mobility devices.

Ritsma says they will be looking at possible designs ahead of the budget decision.

“What does it look like, does it look like a ramp, does it look like a lift from street level up to the landing at the police station.”

Ritsma adds he doesn’t expect there will be any issues with the concept being approved in the budget.
