Shakespeare Park could see new fitness equipment.
Stratford City Council will review a proposal by Quin Malott, Manager of Parks, Forestry & Cemetery, to install outdoor fitness equipment at Monday’s (July 22) council meeting, set to start at 7 p.m.
This initiative, known as the Stratford Urban Gym, aims to promote fitness and make the park more inclusive.
After an initial unsuccessful proposal, a revised plan suggests awarding the project to PlayPower LT Canada Inc. comes in at just over $118,000.
The project will be fully funded by private donations.
Located at Shakespeare Spark adjacent to Stratford’s All Wheels Park, the outdoor facility will feature a circuit of exercise equipment available to all ages and abilities.
Bruce Whittaker, founder and developer of the popular local skate park, told MyStratfordNow earlier this year that the gym idea is the newest phase of the overall park experience, and it will compliment existing offerings.
If approved, there will be no impact on the current city budget, and future maintenance costs will be minimal. The new equipment is expected to boost community health and well-being.
