Communities in Bloom judges impressed with Stratford

Stratford recently impressed international judges Susan Ellis and Bob Ivison for the prestigious Communities in Bloom (CIB) competition.

CIB encourages communities to improve quality of life and the environment using people and plants, building local pride.

The organization, led by volunteers, uses a competitive process to promote sustainability, enhance green spaces, and preserve heritage in all areas of the community

Competing at the international medium level, Stratford faces other contenders from Canada, Hungary, and Ireland.

“We’re looking to see how the communities are all working together, both from the municipality level, the business commercial level, the residents as a community and individuals and how they all come together to improve what is the quality of life,” says Ivison.

Ellis says it’s a great honour for them to be here, they’ve been looking at every street, flower and tree in Stratford.

“Communities in Bloom is not just about the flowers, it’s looking at the whole community, all year round,” says Ivison.

The competition results will be revealed in Charlottetown, PEI, from Oct. 17-22.

The judges share that the International Symposium will be hosted in Stratford in 2025.
