Ring in the New Year right with the Stratford Symphony Orchestra

Ring in 2025 with the Stratford Symphony Orchestra.

It’s “highly anticipated” New Year’s Celebration concert is Jan. 1, at 3 p.m. at Avondale United Church.

The orchestra will be performing Johann Strauss II’s operetta, Die Fledermaus, in concert format with a cast.

William Rowson, music director and principal conductor for Stratford Symphony Orchestra, explains that for its 20th anniversary season the orchestra wanted to go “right for the top”.

“We have really invested in making this particular concert as spectacular as we can.”

Rowson, coming up on his tenth year with the symphony orchestra, said this is the biggest thing they’ve done during his tenure.

The operetta’s plot is full of romance and revelry, set to Strauss’ signature exuberant music.

“I think the that the audience will be just dazzled by the cast we’ve put together,” said Rowson.

New Year’s concerts are a Viennese tradition, explains Rowson, and one that he believes should be celebrated.

“Its one Viennese tradition I think the world should adopt which is start the new year not in your pyjamas, with coffee a little bit hungover all day, but dress up and go to a concert. It sets the year up with a bang.”

Tickets are available at stratfordsymphony.ca or you can call their box office.
