Mike Hitchcock is a golf afficionado.
The Stratford resident works at the city’s municipal golf course and you can catch him playing a round with his friends outdoors when time affords, and weather permits.
The 33-year-old is practicing his swing in the off-season at Stratford Country Club’s golf simulator.
He is getting ready for the 2025 Special Olympics Ontario Summer Games, in Brantford July 10-13.
He qualified for the provincials after earning the silver medal at a regional qualifier.
“It’s a big tournament and I hope to move on to nationals,” Hitchcock said.
“If I can shoot an 89, I’m happy.”
Hitchcock is an avid athlete, competing out of Special Olympics Ontario Stratford and Area in various sports over the years. He has played for the London Blazers floor hockey team at the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games.
Jane Larkworthy, community coordinator with the local organization, said Hitchock is a “wonderful ambassador” for the team and Special Olympics in general.
“We’re very proud of his accomplishments and are confident that his determination to succeed will serve him well at these games.”
