UPDATE: Fifty-five charges against smash-and-grab Paris Jewelers thieves

Police have laid a total of 55 charges against four people involved in the smash-and-grab robbery at Paris Jewelers, inside Stratford Mall Wednesday evening.

Three of the of the accused are youths, including a 15-year-old from Toronto, a 16-year-old from Richmond Hill, and a 17-year-old from Springhill, Nova Scotia.

The fourth is Julian Johnson, age 27, of Richmond Hill.

Charges include robbery, possession of break-in instruments, forcible confinement, assault with a weapon and numerous breaches of release order-related charges.

Stratford police responded to 911 calls around 6 p.m. During the robbery, a store employee was assaulted by one of the suspects as attempts to flee from the store were made.

The employee suffered minor injuries and did not require any medical attention.

Investigation revealed involvement of a second vehicle.

It was located abandoned in a ditch on Road 111 near Highway 7/8.

Johnson is also being charged for incidents that occurred in police custody including assaulting a police officer for biting one officer and spitting on several others.

He is charged with mischief under $5,000 for property damage while in custody.

A fifth suspect remains at large.
