City resident publishes book of COVID-era short stories

A Stratford man has turned his memories of the pandemic into a work of literature.

Bruce Duncan Skeaff has released a new book of personal short stories called Letters from a Pandemic.

Skeaff said the book’s content came out of a weekly newsletter he wrote to keep in touch with good friends from across North America.

“When we all went into lockdown the first time, I realized there was a good chance I was going to be out of touch with some of my really good friends, particularly some farther away.”

That’s when he decided to start writing a newsletter.

“It was about what had gone on with me in the last week and I did this every Friday morning. I found that pieces of news or things that were happening with me came up it also started reminding me of stories of other things that have happened to me, people I’ve met or things I’ve done.”

Skeaff said short stories came out of the newsletter and a friend said he should look at getting the content published.

“I’d sit down after breakfast every Friday and say here’s what happened to me during the last week, then I would end up getting into ‘and that reminds me of another story.’”

The author said the book doesn’t contain any serious messages about the pandemic, but readers will find the stories unique.

“A lot of fun little stories about memories I have, personal and business-wise. For 13 years I was a newspaper reporter and you certainly get a lot of stories out of your life when you are a newspaper reporter.”

Skeaff said he may, at some point, have a sequel to Letters from a Pandemic.
The book is available on Amazon.
