Water main break leads to cancellation of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels performance

A showing of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels was sidelined by a water main break.

The City of Stratford said a call came in about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, for the area of Waterloo Street near the intersection of Rebecca Street.

City manager of Environmental Services Sean Beech says four crews were dispatched and they “set up a road closure, traffic control and had to isolate several valves around it to decrease pressure so to excavate, go down and do repairs.”

“We had Public Works initially on site and they helped with the road closure, and we had water operations staff on site” said Beech.

“It’s a 150 milliliter water main that they were working on. That’s why there was a lot of water coming out of the ground and out into the service.”

Beech said crews worked on repairs late into the evening.

He adds it was an old water main, and incidents like this happen as infrastructure ages.
