Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Rae announced more than $20 million in housing enabling funding on Friday, including $6.13 million for Perth County.
The goal is to help municipalities build necessary infrastructure, to get more homes built locally. This includes water, road, or other types of infrastructure.
North Perth will get $5.42 million to ‘unlock’ 712 housing units and $707,000 in Perth East to unlock 216 units.
“This additional round of funding brings the total number of homes enabled through the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program to almost 800,000 across Ontario.”
Rae said many municipalities need assistance from the province to get infrastructure built, especially housing enabling infrastructure.
This funding comes through the Housing Enabling Water Systems Fund, a provincial program that helps municipalities make or repair water infrastructure for their communities.
Funds will also support the Listowel Fairlaine Road sanitary pump station for North Perth, and Milverton parallel forcemain project for Perth East.
Funding was also announced for projects in the Town of Minto ($4.46 million) and Township of Mapleton ($9.87 million), both in Wellington County.
