Officials from Firestone announced to its Woodstock plant’s 200 workers the facility will be closing its doors in mid-2018.
The plant, which has been in operation since 1936, makes materials used primarily in tire production.
Upper management told workers the closure is due to global markets, as some of the plant’s work will be discontinued and the rest shifted to North Carolina.
The union says the plant’s workers are due to receive enhanced severance in line with their agreement and reps will meet at a later date to discuss the details.
