Statement From Stratford Festival Claims Bomb Threat Forced Cancellation Of Opening Night

The Stratford Festival has issued a statement after cancelling tonight’s opening performance of “The Tempest”.

In a press advisory a spokesperson says they are “saddened to announce a bomb threat was made against the theatre tonight”.

The advisory goes on to say that on the advice of police; Festival staff evacuated all Festival premises and that patrons, staff and artists left in an “orderly fashion”.

All ticket purchases for tonight’s performance will be honoured and ticketholders will be contacted by the Festival.

Festival Artistic Director Antoni Cimolini says they will make more information public as it becomes available.

So far Stratford Police Service has only said in a tweet that they evacuated both the Festival Theatre and Avon Theatre after a receiving a threat that explosives had been placed at the Stratford Festival.
