Stratford Police Chief calls actions of Minneapolis police officers “appalling”

Stratford’s Police Chief says the actions of the Minneapolis Police Officers in the death of George Floyd are “appalling.”
Greg Skinner says the images that we’ve seen over the past few weeks following Floyd’s death are very compelling and he says we need to take steps to make sure we aren’t over militarizing policing.
Skinner says there are things police forces can do to ensure they keep the public trust.
“Demonstrate accountability, we can be transparent in what we’re doing and how we’re doing it, we can engage the public in in conversation and listen to the public when they’re telling us that things need to change.”
Skinner adds officers with SPS go through 40 hours of training every year on a variety of different issues but he adds there is never enough training and they need to make sure it’s ongoing, perpetual and current.
