Huron Perth MOH says mask directive is a “good faith” requirement

The Medical Officer of Health for Huron Perth says we can expect to still see cases of COVID-19 in Canada as the virus is still around.

Dr. Miriam Klassen issued instructions earlier this week to owners and operators in the region on the wearing of masks while inside commercial and public establishments.

The directive came into effect Friday and Dr. Klassen says the goal is to encourage mask use among those that are able as a “good faith requirement.”

She says the masks aren’t mandatory but owners and operators have been instructed to have policies in place for people to wear them.

Dr. Klassen says operators shouldn’t ask for proof of an exemption if someone isn’t wearing a mask.

She adds following the guidelines around COVID-19, and now adding the extra step of wearing a mask, will keep community transmission down and will help schools reopen in the fall.

There is one active case of COVID-19 in Perth County and Dr. Klassen says the person is self-isolating at home.
