A Stratford woman is being recognized for being a leader in our province.
Jean Aitcheson is one of sixteen people to receive the 2022 Ontario Senior Achievement Award.
Recipients of the awards help to improve the lives of Ontarians of all ages through community services and humanitarian activities.
They also support and empower the aging population.
Aitcheson started nursing in 1964 and after she retired, she started a scholarship fund for students pursuing a career in nursing.
She has also organized several medical missions to 10 developing countries and helps at volunteer organizations including Rotary, Missionary Ventures, Care Partners, and Friends of Orphans.
Perth-Wellington MPP Mathew Rae says Aitcheson embodies the Rotarian motto, service above self.
He adds that through her work, she has helped thousands of people around the world.
The awards were created in 1986 to recognize outstanding seniors who, after the age of 65, have made significant contributions to their communities.
The recipients were recognized by Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell and Minister Cho at a recognition ceremony in the Lieutenant Governor’s Suite earlier this week.
Aitcheson was also appointed a member of the Order of Canada late last year.
Perth-Wellington MP John Nater says the Stratford woman truly embodies the motto of the Order of Canada, “they desire a better country.”
