New downtown mural highlights the musical side of Stratford

The musical community of Stratford has been immortalized in the downtown.

Downtown Stratford BIA announced the completion of Strike Up The Band, a new mural located on the east-facing wall of The Milky Whey Fine Cheese Shop on 118 Ontario Street.

Staff said the mural celebrates past and present musicians who have called Stratford and area home.

Canadian maritime artist Shane Drever created the mural. Drever is known for creating paintings with a focus on emotional resonance, memory of place and the human condition.

BIA general manager Jamie-Lee Pritchard said they are thankful to Drever for bringing the mural to life.

“Beyond his creativity and talent, it has been wonderful watching him interact with the many people who stopped to talk with him while he worked. The conversations and stories shared at the wall have really become part of the mural itself.”

BIA staff added that along with the mural, they’ll continue highlighting the city’s musical history by putting together a series of Spotify playlists called the Sounds of Stratford.

Visitors will soon be able to scan QR codes at the mural to access the playlists.
