UPDATE: Ten Million Dedicated to Tom Patterson Theatre Project; Council Puts Timeline on Final Decision

UPDATE: Stratford City Council has now put a timeframe on its direction on the proposed Tom Patterson redevelopment.

Council agreed to move quickly and put a clock on a decision for next month taking into account the recent public feedback.

Last month’s public meeting on the project featured a packed house of residents who asked questions of both the city and festival.

The Stratford Festival’s board chair, Dan Bernstein along with his wife Claire Foerster have pledged $10 million to the redevelopment of the Tom Patterson Theatre.

The hedge fund director who lives Connecticut says the festival is a crucial piece of theatre in North America, adding the festival means a great deal to his family.

Artistic Director Antoni Cimolino says the commitment is quite the endorsement for the Festival and its future.

So far, the province has promised $20 million to the redevelopment of the 46-year-old theatre with a decision on funding also expected from the federal government before the end of this year.
