Healthcare Alliance Raising Concerns Over Lack of Personal Support Workers

The Huron-Perth Healthcare Alliance is raising concerns over hospitals taking on patients who should be in long-term care facilities.

The alliance’s CEO, Andrew Williams says it’s not just Huron and Perth County problem, it’s a provincial one.

Williams says while the province is taking steps to address the issue, the underlying problem is a shortage of personal support workers.

The Alliance has announced the ministry will be providing six more beds to local hospitals.

He says the lack of support workers means hospitals are more reluctant to discharge patients to home care.
