Perth County will be moving forward on trying to secure funding through the Community Transportation Grant Program.
The money would go to public transit, tackling local transportation needs in rural municipalities, while bringing in or improving upon current services.
County council has voted in favour of tacking $10,000 onto its budget to hire a consulting firm to help with the application.
CAO Renato Pullia says it’s something county staff wants to move on the application quickly.
It comes following a presentation from Ryan Erb, the Executive Director of the United Way Perth-Huron on the challenges of rural travel for rural residents, especially seniors.
The maximum grant could be as high as $500,000 individually or for multiple community projects as high as $1.5 million.
