Nater not happy with Canadian Free Trade Agreement

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is coming under fire from John Nater when it comes to the Canadian Free Trade Agreement.

The MP for Perth-Wellington is taking issue with the Supreme Court of Canada’s decision Thursday to rule against a New Brunswick man who was caught and fined as he was bringing beer and liquor from Quebec back to his home province, Nater says it’s time for the Trudeau government to renegotiate what he says is a “inadequate” agreement which shouldn’t allow against Canadians bringing legal products from one province to another.

Nater says the agreement is hurting Canadians instead of helping them.

“I’ve talked to one particular brewery owner who said it’s actually easier for him to sell beer and to export beer to Michigan and New York State than it is to other provinces so that really drives up the cost of doing business when you’re having to go outside of Canada rather than to markets inside Canada.”

Trudeau says great strides have been made by his government when it comes to opening up trade within the country and they will try and do more.
