Stratford’s Avondale United Church now an affirming ministry

Stratford’s Avondale United Church is opening its doors to people from all walks of life.

Its congregation held a meeting last Sunday where they voted overwhelmingly to become an affirming ministry meaning their doors are now open to the gay, lesbian, transgender, two spirited and queer communities and they can come worship there.

Avondale United Church Worship Minister Keith Reynolds says his church wanted to send an important message.

“There is an open door for anyone who would like to come and be a part of the community but it’s also hope for us as a congregation that we might develop partnerships for folks who might be marginalized or feel like they need some allies in the community.”

The Avondale United Church is made up of the St. John’s United Church and Central United Church who amalgamated in 2015.
