Ontario Provincial Police reminding you to share the road this long weekend

Share the road if you’re planning on heading out this long weekend.

That message from the Ontario Provincial Police who say they recorded 48 motorcyclist deaths in 2017 province wide, a 10 year high.

They say twenty-two of the deaths were not the at-fault driver and they are reminding you to slow down and follow the rules of the road if you’re on them over the Victoria Day long weekend.

OPP Highway Safety Division Sergeant Kerry Schmidt says drivers need to keep common sense in mind.

“The collisions and the calls that we get called to are so often very preventable because when we look at the causal factors behind these wrecks it’s very often because drivers or operators are making decisions that are putting themselves, their passengers and the people who they share the road with at risk.”

The OPP will be doing their annual enforcement blitz over the three days on the highways keeping a close eye out for things like seat belt use, impaired, distracted and aggressive driving.
