Cade Tract now open to the public in West Perth

There’s now another option if you’re looking to get out and active in the area.

The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority says its newest land acquisition, the Cade Tract, is now open to the public.

Barnby Cade and his family donated the 78 acre Perth South property to the UTRCA in 2016 and it can currently be used for hiking, with no managed trails, and a controlled deer hunt in December.

The Cade Tract includes floodplain meadows along the Sommerville Drain, a mature maple woodlot, and a hawthorn thicket on the valley slope.

The UTRCA says naturalization plans for the property this year include converting two hay fields to native tallgrass prairie to provide habitat for grassland birds and converting a third hay field to woodland through tree planting.
