UPDATED: Highway 401 closed near Ingersoll following fatal collision

One person is dead after a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 401 near Ingersoll.

Oxford County OPP, Oxford County Paramedics, and the South West Oxford Township Fire Department were called to the collision on the highway at Oxford Road 6/Foldens Line just after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday.

Police say one involved motorist was pronounced dead at the scene with their name being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin while a second motorist was brought to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Minutes later, police say two additional multi-vehicle collisions happened on Highway 401, east of the first collision, with the two collisions involving around 27 vehicles.

Minor injuries were reported at both collisions which happened just west of Sweaburg Road.

The collisions are under investigation and the 401 remains closed from Highway 2 to Highway 19/Harris Street.

Police say a fatal collision involving multiple vehicles has forced the closure of Highway 401 near Ingersoll.

OPP Sergeant Laura Lee Brown says the collision happened Wednesday afternoon in the westbound lanes of the highway at Oxford Road 6.

She says the closure is expected to last several hours and she warned drivers that parts of the highway are snow covered.

The identity of the driver has not been released

Police say several collisions have happened on the highway through Woodstock and Ingersoll.

Meanwhile, Perth Line 34 is closed between Perth Road 104 and Perth Road 106 following three multi-vehicle collisions.
