Bakes, Magdalena

Magdalena Bakes, age 89, formerly of Gadshill, passed away peacefully at Spruce Lodge in Stratford on May 11, 2019.  Born in Lovas, Yugoslavia on May 30, 1929, daughter of the late Fabian and Maria (Steiger) Kolbrich. Magdalena and husband Peter came to Canada in November of 1951 where they farmed near Gadshill for many years. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Stratford.

Beloved wife of the late Peter Bakes who predeceased her June 16, 1996.  Loving mother of Ernest Bakes (Brenda) and Marlene Thomas (David). Oma of Nicole Bakes (Brandon), Andrew Bakes, Christian Thomas (Kate), and Adam Thomas. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a daughter Rosemary, brothers and sisters Katherina Koch (Joseph), Anna Brundl (Stefan), Adam Kolbrich (Kathi), Joseph Kolbrich (Kathie), John Kolbrich (Paula), brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Katarina (Anton) Ziel and Josef (Barbara) Bakes.

Friends and relatives may call at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Tuesday, May 14, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. when transfer will be made to St. Joseph’s Church, 96 Huron Street, Stratford for the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. A reception will be held at the funeral home Reception Centre following the interment at Avondale Cemetery.
