Changes coming to animal cruelty enforcement in Ontario

Changes are coming to the way animal cruelty enforcement is carried out in Ontario.

As of June 28th, the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals ceased animal cruelty enforcement in Ontario and passed it on to a select number of affiliated societies, including the Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo and Stratford Perth.

Officials say that interim animal protection services are currently in place as the province transitions to a new animal protection model in January 2020 and during the interim period, KWSPHS will continue to provide services in our area.

If you have concerns about animal cruelty, abandonment or neglect, you can contact the province’s new 24/7 reporting hotline.

The new number is 1-833-9ANIMAL (1-833-926-4625).
