Four summer students aiming to learn more about rural health issues

A Goderich based organization is looking to a fresh crop of summer students in helping learn more about issues in our area.

Gateway Centre of Excellence in Rural Health is a not-for-profit organization which says it’s dedicated to improving the health and quality of life of rural residents in Huron, Perth, Bruce, and Grey County.

It says a major part of its work and fundraising is to provide summer research positions to students who will share their talents, learn and contribute to their continued research efforts to improve rural life and, although the students will be working from home this summer, the research continues during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The four summer students that have been hired will each help with four valuable projects this summer, according to the centre, which includes investigating Food Insecurity among rural seniors, developing a business plan for Gateway, improving Farmers Mental Health, and how COVID-19 has impacted the rural healthcare system.
