Alexander “Poppy” Vaters
Alexander Vaters, age 80, of Stratford, passed away peacefully at Victoria Hospital, London on July 17, 2020 surrounded by family. Born in Whitbourne, Newfoundland, son of the late Alexander and Mary Ellen (Butt) Vaters. Poppy worked on the railroad in Newfoundland and later at Blackstone/Valeo until his retirement.
Beloved husband of the late Phyllis (Smith) who predeceased him in 2011. Loving father of Keith, Lisa (Gerard), Neil (Ann), Mike and Darren (Mandy). Loving Poppy of Ashley McCauley (Mike), Emily Vaters (Jeff), Jarret Vaters, Amber Yunes (Adam), Chloe Vaters, Amelia Dillon, Rachael, Rebecca and Shaelyn Beitz and great grandchildren Drayden, Miley and Makenna. Brother of Graham, Gerald (Ivy), Walter, Clayton (Marilyn) and Elsie. Also survived by a sisters-in-law Maxine, Annie, Elizabeth (Vince) and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by brothers and sisters, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Nellie, Mary (Jim), Cyril (Marion), Robert, Harriet (Jack), Madeline, Gertie, Mark, Genevieve, Ethel (William), Jack, Irwin, Blanche, Bill and Bruce.
Visitation at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Tuesday, July 21, from 7-9 p.m. (masks required as well as social distancing while on funeral home property).
