Listowel school closed due to COVID-19 outbreak

A Listowel school has been closed due to a COVID-19 outbreak.

Huron Perth Medical Officer of Health Dr.Miriam Klassen says Northside Christian School has tentatively been closed until December First due to the outbreak.

She says due to the nature of the school a cohort could not be identified which led to the closure and she adds HPPH will determine when the outbreak is over and the school can reopen.

It comes as a cohort at Anne Hathaway Public School in Stratford is self-isolating because of a COVID-19 case while another case at St. Ambrose Separate School in the city saw no school exposure with no cohort needing to self-isolate.

Klassen says there is specific criteria when it comes to a school outbreak.

“An outbreak is declared in a school when there are two or more cases of COVID-19 in students and/or staff or other visitors within a 14-day period where at least one case would have contracted the virus in the school setting.”

There are currently 31 active COVID-19 cases in Huron Perth including 11 in Stratford.
