Off-duty Stratford Police officer helps revive collision victim

An off-duty Stratford police officer is being credited with reviving a victim in a single-vehicle collision in Brant County.

Ontario Provincial Police say Stratford Police Sgt. James Jardine came upon the collision on Highway 403 around 10:15 Saturday night.

Jardine, and another police officer, discovered a man who appeared to be having an opioid overdose in a vehicle that had driven off the road.

They gave the man CPR and two doses of naloxone until he was able to breathe on his own.

Jardine says when he saw the vehicle in the ditch he wanted to help.

“Whether on-duty or off-duty, when we recognize there is a situation where someone is in need of help we stop and we offer that help and we obviously all hope that someone would do the same for us.”

According to OPP, the incident led to the seizure of illicit drugs and stolen property.

Two people from London now face multiple drug related charges.
