St.Marys planning Canada Day festivities

St.Marys will be commemorating their heritage and celebrating their community on Canada Day.

The town is putting on a drive-through parade on the morning of July 1st at the Pyramid Recreation Centre from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Then at 1 p.m., a special ceremony will be broadcast on the town’s Facebook page which will begin with a recognition of Indigenous lands and the discovery of remains at former residential schools in Canada.

Andrea Macko is the Events Coordinator for the Town of St.Marys and she says it’s imperative to take time to honour the lives that were lost.

“We feel that it’s essential to take time out to think of those lives lost that we know about and those that we may not know about yet or ever know about.”
