Stratford Public Library celebrating Family Literacy Week

“Celebrate your heritage.”

That’s the theme of this year’s Family Literacy Week which is happening until Friday.

Trish MacGregor is the Children’s Program Coordinator at the Stratford Public Library and she says Family Literacy Day is a Canada-wide event that’s been celebrated every January 27th since 1999.

In the past, SPL celebrated the one-day event but MacGregor adds they learned it was such an exciting time that they wanted to celebrate it all week long.

She says they are offering free week-long activities including an outdoor story trail and a write-your-own story wall.

There will also be a virtual author visit with Anishinaabe Algonquin author S.P. Joseph Lyons who wrote the book Little Bear in Foster Care.

Lyons wrote the book from his own experiences as an Indigenous child living in foster care.
