Tavistock will soon have new Community Safety Zones.
Designated areas where safety is of greater concern, Oxford County officials say the zones allow for increased fines for speeding and are eligible for photo radar enforcement.
The new zones are on Oxford Road 24 from Woodstock Street to the 50 km/h limit to the west, and Hope Street East from Woodstock Street to the 50 km/h limit to the east.
Frank Gross is the Manager of Transportation for Oxford County and he says the zones will have signs up for drivers to see.
“There’s no change to the existing speed limit but the intent is then police can impose high speeding fines.”
It’s expected the zones will be in place come the spring.
