$250K donated to Humane Society campaign to honour dog

A local philanthropist is donating $250,000 to the Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo & Stratford Perth.

Officials say the money is going to the society’s Better Together campaign, which aims to build a new outreach centre to expand services that support pets and families.

Mike Schout said he did this as a way to invest in the community’s future.

“The Humane Society is a vital community asset, neither government-funded nor for-profit,  and I believe those who can make a positive difference should,” said Schout.

The society said this deed was in honour of his dog Gracie Mae, where they added they’ll pay tribute by naming the Community Room as the Gracie Mae Schout Outreach Room.
