The city’s three ice rinks are getting new dehumidifiers.
Stratford City Council voted this week to approve the purchase of two electric units for Dufferin Arena, replacing a gas-fired unit, and energy efficient gas units at the Rotary Complex and William Allman Memorial Arena.
A staff report from Mark Hackett, manager of community facilities, noted council had budgeted for the replacements.
Total cost is $714,307.
Stratford Mayor Martin Ritsma told MyStratfordNow that the purchases align with the city’s carbon footprint reduction goals and infrastructure renewal through strategic priorities.
Hackett’s report says the dehumidifiers at the Rotary Complex and the William Allman Memorial Arena required extensive repairs over three years and demand capacity for them meant replacing existing units with electric units was not feasible.
Replacement units are highly efficient and will result in energy efficiency.
The proposals from Cimco Refrigeration Inc., the only bid received, were through the Canoe procurement program.
Per its website, Canoe Procurement Group of Canada is described as a Canadian not-for-profit organization built by the public sector for the public sector.
