Stratford Perth Museum is hosting an education seminar called Navigating Midlife Women’s Health.
Nurse practitioner Judy Gardiner will discuss menopause, perimenopause, treatments, and chronic diseases on March 12.
Gardiner says there has been little education in the medical, nursing, and women communities about these topics.
“A lot of us never had these conversations with our parents or families, and so now we’re in this position where we’re experiencing big changes, our bodies feel like they’re betraying us, and because we don’t have the information we’re a vulnerable population.”
“Part of this seminar is really meant to bust those myths, tell women what we actually know, what they can actually do so they can better direct their money, energy, and community resources.”
Gardiner says perimenopause is a transition from the reproductive years of fertility to life beyond, where women still get their periods and can either get disruptive symptoms or a smooth sailing.
She described menopause as a moment in time, an “anniversary of not getting your periods anymore.”
The museum says they originally partnered with Gardiner to run six seminars on these topics back in 2024, and each one sold out in record time.
Tickets to the event are $45 plus taxes and it runs from 6 to 9 p.m.
