A celebrated Broadway musical is holding auditions right here in Stratford.
Perth County Players is running a local production of Fiddler on the Roof in November, with auditions taking place May 26, 27, 29 and 30 at Stratford Intermediate School.
According to the players website, Fiddler tells the story of dairyman Teyve, his family, and the townsfolk of the traditional village of Anatevka, where after his daughters follow their own path, Teyve must ask if he can embrace modernity or reject change.
The show debuted in 1964, and won nine Tony Awards, including one for being the longest running Broadway musical in history at the time in 1972.
Show director Michelle Cutts said they’re looking for young men for this production.
“There is some great young men roles that has singing and dancing, some don’t, so if you’re somebody who really wants to be on stage but not a singer, we have those roles,” said Cutts.
“We’re always looking for more people to help backstage.”
Along with her love for the musical, Cutts said another reason the players went with Fiddler on the Roof was because it had a lot of roles for people.
Participants will be provided lines from the script to read ahead of their audition.
Perth County Players added if you’re auditioning for a singing role, you must prepare a musical theatre song with sheet music, with an accompanist provided to you.
If not possible, you can audition with a karaoke track.
