City to flush fire hydrants this fall

The City of Stratford will flush fire hydrants starting next week.

Officials say the goal is to remove any iron that has settled into the watermains.

As a result, you may experience some discoloured water in your home, but water quality won’t be affected.

To clear discoloured water, city staff say you should run cold water for 10-15 minutes. If the water doesn’t clear by then, turn off the tap and wait 30 minutes.

The flushing is scheduled to start Sept. 8 and run for several weeks.
