Sports Wall of Fame in St. Marys getting three new members

A trio of local athletes are being honoured in St. Marys.

Mike Teahen, Amie Shackleton and Loiey Moir will join the Sports Wall of Fame at a ceremony Nov. 7.

Town Recreation Manager Joannah Campbell said inductees honor achievement and dedication.

Official say Teahen had a lengthy baseball career, which included representing Stratford in the Inter-County Senior League, playing professionally in Alberta for six seasons and representing Canada five times as part of the National men’s baseball team at world championships and Pan-Am Games.

A prolific curler, Shackleton’s career included multiple medals, trophies, and banners, several appearances at provincials, Silver Tankards, Ontario Mixed Curling Championships, intermediate women’s provincials, and at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Moir was instrumental in the expansion and development of ladies fastball in town and competed as a member of the St. Marys Pullets, the Ontario provincial champions in 1962 and 1963.

Moir played for the Kitchener Kieswetters, winning the 1971 Canadian national championship, and representing Canada at the World Ladies Fastball Tournament in Italy, where they finished in second place.

The ceremony begins at 2 p.m.
