Home care program will help address child-care shortages

A new initiative available in St. Marys will help residents start their own home-based child-care business.

Administered by the City of Stratford’s licensed home child-care program, it will support residents entering the child-care sector, and aim to increase available spaces for families while creating meaningful self-employment.

The Town of St. Marys said access to reliable child-care is an important part of a thriving community, helping parents and caregivers balance work and family responsibilities and supporting the local workforce.

The town adds that innovative approaches are required to increase child-care spaces.

Town CAO Brett Kittmer said programs like this have the potential to support St. Marys families while creating rewarding opportunities for residents to build a business of their own.
