Hairstyling school raising big bucks for SGH cancer and medical care clinic

What started as a small fundraiser at Festival School of Hairstyling has raised some big money.

Owner Ginny Nigro said the idea came to her after her own battle with cancer.

In three years, the team has raised more than $7,400, including $1,800 in one week last month.

Proceeds go towards Stratford General Hospital’s cancer and medical care clinic and mammography program.

“Because cancer seems to becoming more common unfortunately, that’s why we’re still doing it and I will still do it just to help out,” Nigro told MyStratfordNow.

Nigro was diagnosed in May, 2021 and underwent a double mastectomy.

Nigro went to London every day to receive radiation treatment. She received chemotherapy treatment in Stratford.

She says the positive reception from community members warms her heart.

“I’m glad we can help out any way we can.”

The next fundraiser is October, 2027.
